CFB Week 2: Three Games to Watch
"Alexa, Play 'Without Me' by Eminem" because guess who's back? Austin with some College Football "knowledge"
What’s up, y’all?! I’m fashionably late, but I am back to break down some fun games for you guys this weekend as we gear up for an exciting Week 2 in college football!
Now, it’s only Week 2, but college football fans are already in midseason form—analyzing every play, scrutinizing every stat, and gearing up for a weekend that could either confirm or completely upend our early season expectations. This weekend brings three intriguing matchups that will give us a better sense of where these teams really stand. Let’s break them down. But before we get there, remember this?:
I can’t believe anyone thought FSU was going to be good. Anyways…
Texas (3) at Michigan (10): A Texas-Sized Challenge in Ann Arbor
This early-season clash between Texas and Michigan is one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend. Texas enters the Big House with plenty of confidence after a strong opening game, but let’s not get too carried away—it’s still early, and Michigan presents a whole new level of challenge compared to a Colorado State team that was “supposed to go 12-0”.
Under new head coach Sherrone Moore, Michigan’s defense looks to remain solid, but the big question is how they’ll hold up against a Texas offense that has shown potential. With quarterback Quinn Ewers under center, Texas has the tools to break the game open, but they’re still in the process of proving themselves after losing Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and Jonathan Brooks to the NFL Draft. Michigan, meanwhile, is eager to show that they can compete with the best despite their significant personnel losses, and a home win here would do just that.
Prediction: Texas pulls away late, proving they’re a force to be reckoned with, while Michigan is left to regroup and reassess.
Iowa State at Iowa (21): The Cy-Hawk Trophy Stays Home
The annual Cy-Hawk Trophy game is always a tough, physical battle, and this year should be no different. Iowa has long been known for its defense, but early signs suggest the Hawkeyes might have more to offer on the offensive side of the ball this season. Still, with only one game under their belt, it’s too soon to declare Iowa’s offense revitalized.
Iowa State will come ready to challenge their in-state rivals, and their defense is capable of making life difficult for Iowa. However, playing in front of the home crowd, Iowa will have the edge. If the Hawkeyes can find a rhythm on offense, they should be able to keep the Cyclones at bay and retain the trophy.
Prediction: Iowa wins by a solid margin, showing flashes of offensive improvement while relying on their trademark defense to get the job done.
Boise State at Oregon (7): A Tight Contest in Eugene
Boise State’s history against Oregon is impressive—they’ve beaten the Ducks three times since 2008. But history won’t help them much when they step onto the field in Eugene this weekend. The Broncos showcased a strong ground game in their opener, and they’ll need every bit of that momentum against an Oregon team that had some unexpected struggles last week.
Oregon’s offense is dangerous, but Boise State has a knack for rising to the occasion in games like this. The Ducks will need to be sharp to avoid another close call. This game has the potential to be much tighter than the rankings suggest, with Boise State fully capable of keeping it close—or even sneaking out a win if Oregon isn’t careful.
Prediction: Expect a close game with Boise State giving Oregon all they can handle. This one could go down to the wire, with the Broncos pushing the Ducks to the limit.
Have a blast watching Week 2! I’ll be back later with more content as the year goes on!
